Black Eyed Peas and Shakira teamed up for ‘Girl Like Me,’ which is the fifth single of the group’s eighth studio album, ‘Translation‘, and started dominating the entire music industry as of the date of December 4.
The song, produced by will.i.am, Shakira and Johnny Goldstein, released two days ago, before that, Shakira teased the lyrics of the song through her verified Instagram account by writing as a caption for a black and white photo, in which she appears in the 80s sports outfit:
“So they tell me that you’re looking for a girl like me…”😉
Then the singer took to Instagram account one more time and announced the music video for the song. Shakira uploaded a part from the said music video, in which she dances in vintage outfits and showing her skateboarding skills, and wrote:
“I had so much fun with this one — hope you guys love watching as much as we did shooting!”
Both the song itself and its music video garnered high praises from audiences; especially Latin fans flooded the social media to congratulate Shakira and Black Eyed Peas because of the song’s lyrics which pay tributes to Latinos. In the opening lines, will.i.am raps:
“La-La-Latinas/ I want a girl like Shakira/ Esa latina está rica/ I want a familia chica que sepa vivir y que viva la vida/ I need a bien bonita/ Elegante señorita/ Girl, I want you and I need ya.”
The music video, filmed in September 2020, received over 5 million views just in a day, and it became trending globally on YouTube. To celebrate the achievement and thank fans and followers, the ‘Whenever’ hitmaker wrote through Twitter:
“Guys I’m SO over the moon with all of your comments and responses to the Girl Like Me video and song. I’m so excited and I’m sure Black Eyed Peas are too. So thank you thank you thank you!”
