Canadian singer and songwriter Justin Bieber said goodbye to “Canada’s Dad” with a heartfelt Instagram tribute.
As known, Walter Gretzky, best known as the father of famous ice hockey player Wayne Gretzky, passed away on March 4, 2021, when he was 82. The legendary coach had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2012.
Once the devastating news spread, Bieber, who is preparing to release his latest album on March 19, took to his verified Instagram account and posted a fan-art devoted to the late coach. Alongside the image, the 27-year-old wrote:
“First time I met Walter Gretzky was in Branford Ontario at my peewee minor hockey tournament when I had a 6 goal game (like I had to mention I had a 6 goal game Justin lets not make this about you).”
The singer, who is also a hockey player, said in his message regarding the legend, known for his passion for the game:
“Thank you for your leadership and your love for the game and for making Mr. Wayne Gretzky you will not be forgotten.”
Following Bieber’s post, Gretzky’s son Ty Gretzky jumped into the comments section and wrote the following message in short:
“The man! ❤️”
Apart from Bieber, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Former Toronto Maple Leafs captain Doug Gilmour also released tributes to mourn his death.
