Anwar Hadid, best known for dating well-known singer Dua Lipa and being the young brother of Gigi and Bella Hadid, made a perplexing statement through his Instagram Stories, regarding the COVID-19 vaccine.
When a user asked the 21-year-old if he would receive the coronavirus disease vaccine, during a question & answer session on Instagram, Hadid stated that he is against vaccinations by saying:
“Either I just don’t get it or I get it and go willing heal from it and get antibodies rather than do that process unnaturally, our bodies are made by the creator to do way more than we think.”
Hadid, as a person who is at high risk for COVID complications because he has Lyme disease, then clearly said he would “absolutely not” get it after being asked “Will you take the vaccine” by another user.
Following his anti-vax sentiments, Hadid became a subject of a great number of backlashes. Both health workers and social media users slammed him for his statement, which could lead people not to get the vaccine.
While physician and immunologist Anthony Fauci stated that at least 70% of the public needs to receive the vaccine to get rid of the pandemic, a Twitter user wrote:
“All these people are DYING or have DIED from this virus, you idiot. Good luck with that one.”
Both The Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines have been approved in the US, with more than 94% effectiveness.
