The entire basketball community is mourning the death of Nigerian-American professional basketball player, Michael Ojo. According to news obtained from his former basketball team the Red Star Belgrade, Ojo died of a heart attack at the age of 27, on August 7, 2020, in Belgrade, Serbia.
“Michael Ojo, the centre of Crvena Zvezda Basketball Club has passed away in Belgrade earlier today. We are lost for words, it’s simply devastating. Rest in peace, Gentle Giant.”
Ojo played for three seasons with Serbian clubs Košarkaški Klub FMP and Košarkaški Klub Crvena Zvezda. Regarding the player, it was also stated that he unexpectedly died during individual training after he had collapsed.
Besides, Florida State University shared the following statement along with a photo of Ojo to send their condolences, through Twitter:
“We would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and former teammates of Michael. Michael was a team captain, Florida State graduate, and a valued member of the Tallahassee community. He always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger. He will forever be remembered for the positive impact he had on the Seminole family.”
