Former Basketball Player Maya Moore Frees Jonathan Irons From Prison

Maya Moore, who took a break from basketball to work for black rights in the field of law provided the release of Jonathan Irons from prison after burglary and assault charges.

Jonathan Irons, who had been unfairly sentenced to 50 years at the age of 18 spent more than 20 years in prison.

In order to support Irons, Moore funded the case and sacrificed her career. Finally, she reached her purpose on July 2 with the court decision.

According to The New York Times, the basketball player used the following statements after the release:

“I’m pumped that people are understanding where the real change lies as far as giving something up. That’s all of us, giving something up if you have any sort of power.”

Then, the 31-year-old, who focussed on reform in the justice system, posted a photo of herself with Jonathan Irons and captioned it as follows:
