Vanessa Bryant answered back to her mother Sofia Laine, who sued her own daughter with the claim of not getting any payment as a “longtime personal assistant and nanny,” on Tuesday, in California.
According to news obtained by PEOPLE Magazine, Vanessa Bryant claimed that her mother is “continuing to try and find ways to extort a financial windfall from” their family after her husband, Kobe Bryant’s passing.
Bryant, who lost her husband and 13-year-old daughter in a helicopter crash in January, also said that she has financially supported Laine for approximately 20 years even though she was not a personal assistant for her and Kobe as she had claimed in the court file. Bryant told PEOPLE:
“For nearly two decades, we arranged for my mother to live in our nearby properties, at no cost to her because she had claimed that she didn’t have any money to buy her own home after her divorce. My husband and I felt it was best for her not to live in our home. She watched our girls from time to time, just like most grandparents do. She did not take care of business issues or expenses.”
Bryant criticized the 68-year-old for asking $96 per hour for working 12 hours a day for 18 years and repeated that she was not working as a professional nanny for her three children.
“In reality, she only occasionally babysat my older girls when they were toddlers. (…) Her claims are obviously false but I still tried, repeatedly, to work things out with my mother.”
The wife of the late star also claimed that Sofia Laine previously demanded “$5 million, a house and a Mercedes SUV” by contacting her through certain intermediaries. According to Bryant, her mother came up with “false and absurd claims” because she had not given in to her mother’s threats and requests.
“She wants to live off of my daughters and me for the rest of her life while continuing to collect monthly alimony from her ex-husband since 2004. My husband and I have never discouraged or kept her from providing for herself.”
Bryant concluded her statement by saying that nor she neither her husband Kobe promised Sofia anything.
