Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., pled guilty to carrying a loaded handgun during traveling on a private jet.
As fans may remember, in November, TMZ broke the story that the rapper had been charged with illegal possession of a weapon / firearm by a convicted felon. After a month, according to the New York Times, he told the judge during a virtual hearing:
“Your honor, I plead guilty.”
The 38-year-old rapper, who had been convicted of illegally having a firearm in 2007, is now facing up to 10 years in prison because of his previous criminal cases. However, the rapper’s attorneys predict that taking responsibility and pleading guilty may lead to shortened sentence time.
Back on December 23, 2019, the rapper, who caused great controversy by supporting Donald Trump in the United States election, was stopped by police officers at the Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport, and his private jet was searched. At that time, the officers found “a gold-plated Remington 1911, 45-caliber handgun loaded with 6 rounds of ammunition,” plus illegal substances, according to TMZ.
Carter’s sentencing is scheduled for January 2021.
