American rapper Lil Tjay, born Tione Jayden Merritt, was arrested for gun and prohibited substance possession on December 30, in Brooklyn.
According to police reports, obtained by TMZ, the rapper was pulled over for a quick search after he had switched lanes without signaling, and the officers noticed that he had a gun and drug on his vehicle.
Following the police officers allegedly found four loaded handguns, the 19-year-old rapper was arrested. He was booked for grand larceny in addition to criminal possession of a weapon and illegal substance. New York City Police Department also confirmed the news.
The news regarding the arrest came after another legal issue; as fans might remember, Tjay’s music video shoot in Queens had been interrupted by police officers on December 27. According to the latest news, the New York cops arrived at the scene after getting numerous calls from residents, regarding the people waving guns.
A New York City Police Department spokesperson told:
“The officers had “responded to a 911 call of a disorderly group shooting a music video, flashing firearms in a courtyard.”
At that time, officers searched Merritt’s car, however, they did not found a firearm or prohibited substance inside. So, the rapper was not arrested, although the rapper’s friend, Tahjay Dobson was booked for gun possession, false personation, and resisting arrest after the officers found a “pistol with a loaded clip” in his car.
Neither Lil Tjay nor his representatives have yet commented on the issue.
