The attorney and author Michelle Obama, the first lady of the United States, shared an old photo of herself with her husband, former President Barack Obama from the wedding day, and talked about the lessons she got throughout her marriage.
The other day, Obama, who will celebrate her 28th wedding anniversary with her husband, opened up the up and downs of her marriage on Michelle Obama Podcast with guest Conan O’Brien. She said during the show:
“There were times that I wanted to push Barack out of the window. And I say that because it’s like, you’ve got to know the feelings will be intense. But that doesn’t mean you quit. And these periods can last a long time. They can last years.”
A shortly after this conversation, the 56-year-old took to Instagram, and clarified her words by writing the following message, alongside the abovementioned wedding photo:
“Last week on The #MichelleObamaPodcast, Conan and I reflected on our marriages. This relationship can be one of the most foundational pieces of our identities—bringing us so much joy, meaning, and support every single day.”
The ‘Becoming’ author, having married with Barack Obama on October 3, 1992, concluded her words by encouraging her followers to share their stories:
“But one thing is for sure: It also takes a lot of work; a lot of honesty with ourselves and our partners. That’s one thing I’ve learned. I’d love to hear some of the things you’ve learned about marriage and about yourself. Let me know in the comments. ❤”
