Mariah Carey Says Prince’s ‘Sign O’ The Times’ Is A Cultural Revolution

Nineteen-time World Music Awards winner Mariah Carey praised Prince’s unforgettable work ‘Sign O’ The Times’ and described it as a revolution.

Carey included a series of photos on Instagram and remembered Prince, who is ranked among the best-selling music artists of all time, by teaming up with PushBlack, a non-profit media organization to raise up Black voices. Alongside the photos, Carey wrote as a caption:

Prince will forever be a music icon. Although he had MANY hits and started plenty of musical movements, his 1987 ‘Sign O’ The Times’ was a cultural revolution that used pop and soul to address the state of our country. Head over to @wearepushblack or swipe up in my story to be reminded of this legendary piece of work. #PushBlackHistory #RIPPrince 💜”

The ninth studio album of Prince, ‘Sign O’ The Times’ released on March 30, 1987, and became the Prince’s most acclaimed record. The album, regarded as the best album of the singer, was ranked as one of the greatest albums of all time by a good number of publications.

As Carey claimed, ‘Sign O’ The Times’ made waves in the music industry with its minimal instrumentation, sped-up vocals, and standout songs. Also, in the album, a state-of-the-art digital sampler was used, differently from the other albums in that period. Due to its modernist style, it was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), a shortly after had peaked at number six on the Billboard 200.
