The 2020 BET Awards took place on June 28 and American singer & rapper Lizzo won her first award for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist.
‘Truth Hurts’ singer shared the best female category with Beyoncé, Kehlani, H.E.R., Summer Walker, Jhene, and Aiko. However, after Lizzo won the award, certain disagreements arose; some people thought it was not fair.
Anyway, Lizzo shared a video of herself thanking BET and her competitors, especially she showed her gratitude to Beyoncé by saying the followings:
“Beyoncé, thank you for everything you have done for Black culture.”
‘Good as Hell’ singer captioned the mentioned video as follows:
“I don’t believe in being the ‘best of’ in a category of superior talent. I only believe in being the best me.”
Newly winner added:
“Thank you @betawards for including my story in your celebration of our culture. I am beyond humbled and can’t wait to drop more of my genre-flipping feel good music lol! Trust me… it’s on the way 😉”
