Gwen Stefani fired up her social media accounts to mark the 25th release anniversary of the legendary song, ‘Don’t Speak.’
On April 15, the co-founder, lead vocalist, and primary songwriter of No Doubt took to both her verified Instagram and Twitter accounts in order to celebrate the days as shows her gratitude for the fans who made the song the group’s biggest hit.
To mark the release anniversary, ‘The Voice’ judge Stefani released a two-video gallery from 1998, when the song was first released and added the following message:
“25 years and 815 million views on YouTube later. Thank you for listening and re-listening to my music all these years. Happy anniversary.”
As Stefani stated, the song received a high view and stream rate on video & music platforms even though more than 20 years passed since its first release. As fans may know, ‘Don’t Speak,’ which was nominated for Song of the Year at the 1998 Grammys, was written by Stefani herself.
During a recent interview with Variety magazine Stefani told off the process of writing / recording the song, which became the most-played song on U.S. radio for almost 16 weeks in 1998:
“When I was writing back then, I was so naive, I didn’t know anyone would hear it ever. We had been working on that record for so long before it came out. So I think when there’s something that honest and real and pure and not done for any other reason than just to say it for your own heart then people connect to that.”
Stating that it was so different from everything else on their record, she added that “the fact that it was the defining world hit that it was and continues to be is insane.”
