The recipient of numerous accolades including an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award, America Ferrera penned a tribute for Selena Gomez, who has been listed as one of the most influential people of 2020 by TIME Magazine.
In the statement written by Ferrera and published on TIME Magazine, the actress stated that Gomez was a passionate person who can influence whatever she wanted and added:
“She has always been a great musician, but she’s also always been more than her music.”
The ‘Real Women Have Curves’ actress mentioned the achievements of Gomez, and highlighted that she was highly delicate on social issues:
“She launched her own beauty line, with which she’s pledged to raise $100 million over 10 years for mental health services in underserved communities. She’s used her enormous social-media platform to encourage voting and to support Black Lives Matter.”
Ferrera continued to praise Gomez through the following words:
“And, perhaps most important in a time when immigrants fear for their safety and ICE raids pepper the news, Selena has been an outspoken advocate for immigrant rights in America.”
In return, Gomez took to Instagram to thank Ferrera; she uploaded a screenshot of the statement on Time’s website, and added a caption that reads:
“I’ve looked up to @americaferrera for so long and to be able to hear such an inspired woman say these things mean the world to me. Thank you @time, thank you @americaferrera”
