Ed Sheeran, one of the world’s best-selling music artists, spoke with documentary maker James Sebastiano Jr, and opened up about his “addictive personality.” During the interview, he also revealed that he had struggled with certain eating and drinking problems.
Sheeran recalled the “x World Tour” days, that he describes as “the lowest period of his life,” and stated:
“For me, it was down to bad diet, drinking and then not seeing sunlight at all… oh, and I wasn’t exercising. I would stay up and drink all night. The buses would park underneath arenas and I’d sleep on the bus all day and then wake up and then come out, do the show, drink, get back on the bus, and I didn’t see sunlight for like maybe like four months.”
Then, the ‘Shape of You’ singer addressed his addiction of eating & drinking with great sincerity:
“I kind of don’t do things by halves, so if I’m gonna drink, I kind of see no point in having a glass of wine, I’d rather have two bottles of wine. But, two bottles of wine probably might make you quite sad the next day. (…) You start putting on loads of weight and then you start hating the way you look and then you start getting sad about that.”
Sheeran had received numerous accolades for his second album “x” and its supporting world tour in 2014 – 2015, however, he surprisingly stated that this tour had caused many troubles, especially in terms of mental and physical health.
“It’s all fun and games at the start, all rock and roll … and then it starts getting sad. That was probably like the lowest that I have been. I kind of ballooned. I thought, ‘What was the point?’ In a dark way like, ‘Why am I around? What’s the point?”
The second most-streamed artist of the decade, also said during the interview that he is in a much better place now, with the help of his wife, Cherry Seaborn.
