Cristiano Ronaldo, who is accepted as one of the greatest football players in the world, won the Player of the Century award at the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards. By leaving Barcelona’s Leo Messi and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah behind, Ronaldo grabbed the title “best player of the 2000s” with over 21 million fan votes.
In his acceptance speech, the superstar gave credit to his teammates and coaches by saying:
“It’s a pleasure to win titles. It’s not easy to be top of the game for so many years. I am really proud, but without a team, great coaches and clubs it is not possible.”
After the ceremony in Burj Khalifa, in Dubai, during which he accepted the award, Ronaldo took to his Instagram and celebrated the news. The five-time Ballon d’Or award winner posted a photo of himself holding the huge, golden award in his hand, wrote:
“Couldn’t be happier with tonight’s award! As I’m about to celebrate my 20th year as a professional footballer, Globe Soccer Player Of The Century is a recognition that I receive with so much joy and pride!
Then Ronaldo congratulated the other award holders. At the night, Robert Lewandowski was presented the Player Of The Year Award, while Hans-Flick grabbing the award for Coach Of The Year. As for Pep Guardiola was named as Coach Of The Century.
“Congratulations to Casillas and Piqué for their Career Awards, and last but not least, congrats to my friend Jorge Mendes on his Agent Of The Century Award.”
The five-time UEFA Champions League winner concluded his message by thanking the Dubai Royal Family for their hospitality and his millions of fans for voting for him:
“Finally I must thank, once again, to the Dubai Royal Family for the respect, friendship and hospitality that I allways receive in wonderfull Dubai, and to all the fans that voted for me in such a huge worldwide online voting with over 21 million votes. 👏🏽🙌🏽💪🏽”
