BET Award-winning rapper A$AP Rocky did not forget the painful days he had experienced with his mother, Renee Black, and donated 120 meals to a homeless shelter in New York City, the Regent Family Residence, on the eve of Thanksgiving Day.

The rapper, born Rakim Athelaston Mayers, delivered the meals personally with his mother from Harlem’s Amy Ruth’s Restaurant to the families at the homeless shelter, where they once resided almost two decades ago, according to news obtained by TMZ.

As might fans have known, Mayers lived in the shelter with his mother when he was 15, when he had sold illegal substances in the Bronx to make money for a living. Then the two-time Grammy-nominated rapper left the shelter, which currently serves 83 families, including 111 kids, and moved to midtown Manhattan.

Back in 2012, the rapper opened up about living in the homeless shelter when he was in middle school during a Hard Knock TV interview and said:

I was a little embarrassed as a kid but I rejoiced it and I embraced what that is because it made me who I am today. That was really hard for me back then, being kind of like exposed to that kind of lifestyle is crazy.”

The website, TMZ, also released a photo of the rapper with mother Black, in which the pair wearing face masks against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the masks, it can be seen through their eyes that they are sharing a highly sentimental moment while standing at the shelter.

Here is the photo.
