Thirteen-time Grammy Award-winning artist Pharrell Williams took to his verified Instagram account on his 48th birthday, however, his birthday message was not full of happiness.
On April 6, the ‘Get Lucky‘ hitmaker released a photo of his cousin Donovan Wayne Lynch, who was killed by police during the shootings on 20th Street in Virginia Beach. Alongside the photo of the 25-year-old Lynch, Williams wrote:
“Thank you God for my 48th lap around the Sun. This one is symbolic and a first because I had to speak at my cousin’s funeral, and was choked up with emotions. Too many unanswered City and State questions.”
The music producer, who expressed his sorrow regarding speaking at one of his family members’ funeral on his birthday, called on officials to start a federal investigation concerning the death of Lynch by saying:
“Respectfully, I am calling for a Federal investigation. I also humbly ask that you all keep the family in prayer. His name is Donovon Wayne Lynch.”
As fans might remember, Williams first spoke out about his 25-year-old cousin back in March; at that time, the artist uploaded a photo of him, and wrote that “the loss of these lives is a tragedy beyond measure” in the caption section. He delivered the devastating news with these words:
“My cousin Donovon was killed during the shootings. He was a bright light and someone who always showed up for others. It is critical my family and the other victims’ families get the transparency, honesty and justice they deserve.”
Following Williams’ birthday post, notable names in the music industry, including Meek Mill and Timbaland, took to the comments section to show their support for the musician.
