On February 18, Mark Anthony Morales, best known by the stage name Prince Markie Dee, passed away one day before his 53rd birthday. Once the devastating news regarding the passing of the Fat Boys rapper, the music world was shattered; well-known musicians & rappers took to their social media accounts to send their condolences as expressing their sorrow about the tragic death.
Well-known DJ D-Nice and rapper Fat Joe were two of these names; they went to their Instagram pages with shots of the 52-year-old radio personality and released tributes.
D-Nice, who recently received his very first NAACP Image Awards nomination, wrote that his passing is totally heartbreaking and stated that he always inspired by Morales to get back into music production. He continued:
“I used to drive by their studio in Queens with dreams of emulating their success. He would always be in my CQ dj sets from day one. Sending my love to his family.”
The disc hokey reminded his fans and followers that February 19 would’ve been the birthday of the “hip hop icon” in his tribute.
As for the Grammy Award-nominated rapper Fat Joe said in his Instagram tribute that Prince Markie D was “a great guy,” “a legend,” and “a pioneer.” Joe also shared a memory about the late rapper:
“I would be walking and all of a sudden I would hear music ricochet off the walls, it would go huh huh huh ha huh Hu Hu ha Fat Fat Fat boys, Fat Fat Fat boys this was the first song they would play at the block party to summon you to appear.”
In addition to D-Nice and Fat Joe, Eminem and Questlove were also quick to mourn his death.
