Sam Smith mourned the death of Sophie Xeon, known by her stage name Sophie, who was a 34-year-old Scottish musician and a pioneer in hyperkinetic take on pop music, on his Instagram account.
The sudden death of the trans icon devastated the music industry as she had a unique style and a surreal point of view to music. She even received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album reflecting this style in the best way with her songs.
Sam Smith was among the first musicians who paid tribute after Sophie’s death and he shared a photo of the musician with the following caption describing the news as heartbreaking:
“Heartbreaking news. The world has lost an angel. A true visionary and icon of our generation.”
Before ending his tribute, Smith also wrote that Sophie will continue to inspire future generations and sent his condolences to her family, saying:
“Your light will continue to inspire so many for generations to come. Thinking of Sophie’s family and friends at this hard time ❤️”
