Lana Del Rey, who won numerous music awards such as UK Music Video Award, MTV Europe Music Award for Best Alternative, and Brit Award for International Female Solo Artist, has posted a detailed statement to respond to the celebrities who accused her, through Instagram, on May 22.
With this post, she criticized the accusations that she is glamorizing abuse through her songs. She used the following statements:
“I’m fed up with female writers and alt singers saying that I glamorize abuse when in reality I’m just a glamorous person singing about the realities of what we are all now seeing are very prevalent emotionally abusive relationships all over the world.”
Lana also addressed to the double standards in the music industry by saying that:
“Question for the culture: Now that Doja Cat, Ariana, Camila, Cardi B, Kehlani and Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé have had number ones with songs about being sexy, wearing no clothes, f*cking, cheating etc – can I please go back to singing about being embodied, feeling beautiful by being in love even if the relationship is not perfect, or dancing for money – or whatever I want – without being crucified or saying that I’m glamorizing abuse??????”
Because her songs have themes of tragic romance, glamour, and melancholia, she has been criticized for that she addressed unhealthy relationships for years.
These accusations seem will last longer, so much so that, some of the followers expressed that they do not agree with her.
Besides, at the end of the post, she announced that she will detail her feelings in her next two books of poetry.
