Singer & songwriter Kehlani, born Kehlani Ashley Parrish, took to her Instagram in the first hours of 2021 to remember the late rapper Lexii Alijai, who passed away at the age of 21, on January 1, 2020.
Kehlani posted a series of photos of the late star, who was found dead at the Loews Minneapolis Hotel, and paid tribute to her with hearty words. The singer, who released her second studio album ‘It Was Good Until It Wasn’t‘ in May, began her words as follows:
“It’s been a year and it doesn’t even feel like it. Lex, you really knew to let us all know 2020 was gonna be fu**ing backwards when you left us on the very first day of that s**t.”
Parrish, who also dropped ‘Lexii’s Outro,’ a song devoted to the star’s legacy after her tragic passing, continued her message by saying that Lexii is always with her, in her each step in the life:
“Throughout the year I’ve had moments of really learning and having to understand death and transition, and thru that, I feel you everywhere. Anytime I see a butterfly, an orb of light, or a sparkle in a strangers eye I know it’s you. Sometimes you come in dreams, sometimes other people say they see you around… feel you around.”
Kehlani thanked ‘Redbone‘ hitmaker for visiting, guiding and loving them, and stated that she is still praying for her family and her loved ones. The singer concluded her words by calling her her “lil fu**in sis 4L.”
“We wish we had gotten longer to love you. today, and every day fr but… today, bang lil Lex thru your speakers. Loud as hell. light a candle and tell her you to love her. Lex, we gon lift you up FOREVER! a hurt we won’t ever forget, an angel we won’t let go forgotten. 🤍🦋🦋🦋”
In addition to this Instagram tribute, Kehlani also went to Twitter on that day and released the following message to reminisce her rapper fellow, who passed away due to mixed toxicity from fentanyl and ethanol:
“I’ll never forget waking up a year ago today and hearing. it doesn’t feel like a year and it still doesn’t feel real. REST IN PEACE MY LIL SISTER FOR LIFE LEXII ALIJAI LONG LIVE LEX FOREVER AND EVER.”
