Demi Lovato, who is really honest about her eating disorder, took to Instagram the other day to share a phase of her abnormal eating habits recovery.
Lovato shared a series of body part photos, which focuses on her stretch marks covered by glitter, and wrote alongside it that she is celebrating her body instead of being ashamed of it.
The singer, who announced in 2013 that she had started an addiction rehab process to treat her eating disorder, began her long caption as follows:
“I used to genuinely believe recovery from an eating disorder wasn’t real. That everyone was faking or secretly relapsing behind closed doors. ‘Surely she throws up here and there’, ‘she can’t POSSIBLY accept her cellulite’… those we’re just a few of the things that I used to tell myself growing up.”
Despite all of these negative thoughts and critics, the 28-year-old heralded her fans and followers that her dietitian said to her she is totally recovered from the disorder. Then the singer clarified why she shared those photos:
“In honor of my gratitude for the place I’m in today, this was a live shoot I did by myself in quarantine this summer when I wanted to celebrate my stretch marks instead of being ashamed of them. I started wearing actual glitter paint on my stretch marks to celebrate my body and all of its features (whether society views them as good OR bad)”
Lovato expressed that she admitted her stretch marks aren’t going away, so she decided to ornament them to celebrate her body’s achievements.
“Also let this be a reminder to anyone who doesn’t think it’s possible: IT ACTUALLY IS 😱😱😩😩☺️☺️”
The singer, who is Honorary Ambassador of Education by the American Partnership For Eosinophilic Disorders, concluded her Instagram post in her way; by encouraging her fans to love themselves:
“YOU CAN DO IT. I BELIEVE IN YOU. This year was tough.. be gentle on yourself if you slip up and remember to get right back on track because you’re WORTH THE MIRACLE OF RECOVERY 💖I LOVE YOU ✨”
