Well-known singer Noah Cyrus, who recently received a Grammy nomination for the Best New Artist, apologized for the racist words she used while backing Harry Styles against the conservative author Candace Owens.
A while ago, Cyrus took to Instagram to show her support for Styles, who was criticized by Owens after he had worn a dress for Vogue‘s December, and posted a photo of the ‘One Direction’ alum to her IG story, and wrote:
“He wears this dress better than any of u n***y as* h****z.”
Instagram users were quick to react to her for using highly racist language; especially they slammed her for using an offensive term, which is defamation to black women and their hair. Whereupon, Owens, who is an Afro-American woman, went to Twitter and responded to her:
“Any one of woke liberals care to explain to me how @noahcyrus calling me a “n***y a** h**” is not racist? I’m all ears. You guys love cancel culture. @MileyCyrus come get your sister!”
After all these backlashes, the younger sister of Miley Cyrus had to issue an apology for her action. She took to Instagram one more time, on December 3, and released a short statement to clarify the issue. Cyrus wrote:
“I am mortified that I used a term without knowing the context and history, but I know now and I am horrified and truly sorry.”
Then the singer added that she would never use the term again; she thanked everybody for “educating” her regarding the word. The 20-year-old concluded her message by saying that she did not mean to offend anyone.
