Cardi B proved again that 2020 is totally hers.
The ‘WAP’ rapper has been named Billboard’s Woman of the Year for supporting fellow women artists, encouraging voters, and voicing her truths without fear.
B delivered the news herself through her verified Instagram account; she first posted the cover of the Billboard Magazine’s Women In Music 2020 issue, in which she appears in a specially designed Baba Jagne skirt alongside a sign that says “Woman of the Year.” The rapper captioned the photo with a short note and thanked Billboard for the honor.
Then the rapper, who peaked at no.1 on Billboard Hot 100 with ‘WAP,’ featuring Megan Thee Stallion, released various photos taken for the latest issue of the magazine, and showed off the other side of herself by posing with classic outfits that mostly covered her body and are not similar to her stage costumes.
In the cover story interview, when B was asked about her opinions about whether she is a role model of not, she replied:
“Am I a role model? I know I’m a role model because I know there’s a lot of women like me. At the end of the day, I know I’m a bi**h that made it through because I work my as* off, not because luck fell on my thighs.”
Then B added that she just desires to show her fans and followers it is possible to do positive things without giving up their characters. During the interview, she admitted that she loves her own body plus her husband Offset‘s figure, and rapping about that is her pleasure. Later, B defended her music style, which is frequently criticized by conservative voices, by saying that being a “naughty girl” in the music does not means hurting somebody.
