Rapper Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. In case convicted of the charge, Wayne will face a potential sentence of 10 years in prison.

According to news obtained by TMZ, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida charged him by alleging that the rapper had a firearm with him on his private jet in December 2019. The U.S. Attorney also stated he already knew that “he had previously been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment.”

On December 23, federal authorities searched Wayne’s private plane, at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport, and they found a gold-plated handgun along with bullets, and certain illegal substances. Wayne acknowledged that the gun belongs to him and told it was a Father’s Day gift.

Carter’s attorney, Howard Srebnick said regarding the case:

“Carter is charged with possessing a gold-plated handgun in his luggage on a private plane. There is no allegation that he ever fired it, brandished it, used it or threatened to use it.”

He added that there is no allegation that he is a “dangerous person.”

Once the news spread, rapper fellow 50 Cent took to Instagram and commented on this issue. He said the charge came after he had supported Donald Trump in the 2020 election. He wrote:

“They gonna try to put you in jail for supporting Trump. 😳”
