29-time American Music Award-winning artist Taylor Swift is now free to re-record her past albums, ‘Taylor Swift,’ ‘Fearless,’ ‘Speak Now,’ ‘Red‘, and ‘1989.’
Swift took ownership of her original songs when her contract with Big Machine Records, which she had signed with almost 15 years ago, was finally over. As fans remember, in 2019, a record executive and investor Scooter Braun purchased the rights to Swift’s records she made through the Big Machine label (her first six studio albums), for $300 million.
Regarding this issue, Swift penned an open letter through her verified Tumblr account and wrote how much she was unpleasant with that buying. In her own words:
“When I left my masters in Scott’s hands, I made peace with the fact that eventually, he would sell them. Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter. (…) He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever.”
After trying to buy the rights to her recordings and having been blocked from performing her own songs by Braun, the 30-year-old singer finally could abide by her word concerning that she would re-record her older songs one day.
As of the date of November 1, Swift’s fans took to social media to celebrate the freedom of the star. So much so that, the hashtag “#TaylorIsFree” became the trending topic on Twitter in hours. A Twitter user wrote:
“It’s officially November which means Taylor can start re-recording her first five albums this MONTH TAYLOR IS FREE #TaylorIsFree“
