German rock band Tokio Hotel, consisting of Bill Kaulitz, Tom Kaulitz, Gustav Schäfer, and Georg Listing, in honor of 15 years together, released a synth-pop rendition of their breakout single ‘Monsoon.’
The band delivered the news through multiple media channels. The lead singer Bill Kaulitz explained in a statement why they dropped a new version of the single, originally released in 2005. Kaulitz said that ‘Monsoon’ completely changed the lives of the group members, and continued:
“We wondered what ‘Monsoon’ would sound like if 2020 was the first time we ever recorded it. We wanted the new version to resonate with the here and now.”
His twin brother Tom Kaulitz stated that they had to do something special for 15 years of this track, which made Tokio Hotel known worldwide. Bill was on the same page with Kaulitz; according to brothers, everything had started with that song. Bassist Georg Listing continued:
“‘Monsoon’ is not just about memories of 2005. It’s a song that has always accompanied us during these last 15 years. For us, this song is closely tied to all of our major successes. We have played it live at the Eiffel Tower in front of 500,000 people on Bastille Day.”
According to Bill the fans of the band still remember the lyrics, and they have feelings regarding the song, that connects them to a specific time in their lives.
“I believe 2020 has been rough for a lot of people so the words of the song are still very relevant today.”
As widely known, ‘Moonson’ – originally ‘Durch den Monsun’ – was released as the band’s debut single fifteen years ago. The new versions of the single, ‘Durch den Monsun 2020’ and ‘Monsoon 2020‘ were respectively dropped on October 2, 2020, and October 16, 2020.
