Legendary musician Mac Davis, who known for hits as ‘Memories,’ ‘In the Ghetto,’ ‘Don’t Cry Daddy,’ and ‘A Little Less Conversation’ passed away on 29 September, from complications following a serious heart surgery, at the age of 78.

Once the news spread via entertainment publications Variety, Rolling Stone, and Billboard, the passing of the music icon, who also wrote for Elvis Presley, confirmed by the Country Music Association through a press release.

“Today our Country community lost an amazing entertainer, songwriter and artist. I remember watching Mac’s TV show as a kid as well as his three years co-hosting the CMA Awards with Barbara Mandrell, which proved his command of the TV medium as well as the music.”

The statement written by Chief Executive Officer of Country Music Association, Sarah Trahern continued:

“Personally, though, I am saddened to recall a wonderful day spent with Mac and his wife Lise Gerard at our CMA Songwriters Series show at the Library of Congress just a few years ago. He held command of the room backstage with lively stories and a genuine love of the craft of storytelling. When he performed ‘In the Ghetto’ that night, fellow songwriter Pam Tillis pointed out that sadly the song is as pertinent today as it was when Mac wrote it in the late 1960s. His timeless artistry will be sorely missed.”

As one’s remember, one day before his death, Davis’ family stated that he had been critically ill following heart surgery, and added that fans’ love prayers would be appreciated.

The legendary musician appeared on various films and TV shows throughout his career, also created his own variety show ‘The Mac Davis Show.’ The artist, named ACM Entertainer of the Year in 1974, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1998 alongside having been inducted into the National Songwriters Hall of Fame.
