John Legend, the first black man to have received all four of the following awards; Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, had a conversation with PEOPLE senior editor Janine Rubenstein, within Meredith’s :Blackprint, and revealed that he was ready to abondon the “Sexiest Man Alive” title.
As might remember, John Legend having been recognized as the Sexiest Man Alive by PEOPLE magazine last year. Whereupon, Legend told that he was excited, but he was a little scared at the same time because he thought there were a lot of pressure.
During the interview, the ‘All of Me’ singer told:
“I’m so ready to relinquish this title.”
Then, Legend told of previous title holders including Blake Shelton, Dwayne Johnson, David Beckham, Chris Hemsworth, Adam Levine, and Channing Tatum, and said he did not take himself seriously as the sexiest man:
“It’s been fun. It’s been funny. It’s been humbling. It’s been all those things. I’ve truly enjoyed just making fun of myself throughout it, because you can’t take yourself too seriously, when someone calls you the Sexiest Man Alive. It’s not a literal thing, and it’s not to be taken too seriously… I have fun with it.”
In another interview dated 2019, the singer, who recently dropped his studio album ‘Bigger Love’ said similar things to the aboves:
“Everyone’s going to be picking me apart to see if I’m sexy enough to hold this title. I’m following Idris Elba, which is not fair and is not nice to me!”
