Variety Magazine, owned by Penske Media Corporation, named Grammy Award winner musician, John Legend Music Mogul Of The Year due to the status of his record contract and his approach to social and political issues.

Variety’s author A.D. Amorosi wrote about Legend on the article titled “John Legend, Variety’s Music Mogul of the Year: Big Business, Bigger Love” and explained why the magazine chose him for this role:

“Notwithstanding his visible and talked-about role as a social justice gadfly and policy wonk, Legend, 41, remains a deeply passionate musician who in 2020 has made colorful R&B that’s optimistic and bright, even in the face of a global pandemic and radical social upheaval.”

As might be remembered, the political thinker and activist John Legend, who released his latest album ‘Bigger Love’ a few weeks before, and his wife Chrissy Teigen had been attacked by President Trump on Twitter. Regarding the issue, Legend spoke to Variety and said:

“President Trump is obviously a bigot. He’s been a bigot his entire life. I believe he is a eugenicist. He’s not capable of leading the country when we have moments of racial unrest and responses to racism. We’re always going to be a weaker nation with him in charge, and it is an urgent priority that he is not in charge.”

Following Variety interview, the first black man to complete an EGOT – won n Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony – took to Instagram and thanked Variety with the following words:

“Thanks to @variety for naming me Music Mogul of The Year. Thanks to everyone who helps make our work happen at @friendsatwork and #GetLiftedFilmCo and all my other endeavors!”
