The ‘Savage’ singer Megan Thee Stallion and the ‘Bodak Yellow’ hitmaker Cardi B released their high-profile collaboration of the year, ‘WAP’ a few days ago; accompanying the single, the rappers unveiled its highly anticipated music video the other day.
The two filmed the video in a luxurious, pastel-toned mansion, and special guests including the makeup mogul Kylie Jenner, pop singer Normani, rappers Mulatto, Rubi Rose, Sukihana, and Rosalia made grand appearances for the ‘WAP’ video.
Regarding the special cameo appearances on the music video, Cardi B spoke to New Music Daily on Apple Music and said:
“These are the girls that I personally like. That I like their music. That I really feel they are going to go mainstream. I wanted a lot of different females, not just female rappers.”
However, Jenner’s appearance drew criticism on social media, because of that she was accused of appropriating Black culture. A good number of fans described her appearance on the music video as “unnecessary” and they defended that Stallion and Cardi B could have found a Black artist instead of her.
Whereupon, Cardi B tweeted a response to criticisms concerning Jenner:
“I wanna say thank you to every woman that was apart of my video! The fact that you made time in your schedules means a lot to me! It was so important to me to include different women, that are different races and come from different backgrounds but are so powerful and influential.”
