The rapper, Kanye West carried out his first campaign rally for the presidential race, and shocked many by growing emotional talking. As might be remembered, West announced his intention to run for president.
One of the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time, West held his first event in South Carolina on July 19 and wore a bulletproof vest during his speech. He firstly criticized American abolitionist Harriet Tubman, he spoke without a microphone and said:
“Harriet Tubman never actually freed the slaves, she just had the slaves go work for other white people.”
Then the rapper cried while talking about abortion, and revealed that his father had refused to have him. He continued by referring that he did not want Kim Kardashian to give birth to his daughter, North:
“I almost killed my daughter.”
He also declared his support for the LGBT community.
Following the speech of the rapper spread through social media, a good number of people stated that he needs help. The Twitter account named BlackWomenViews wrote the followings with related to West’s speech:
“It is clear that Kanye needs some serious help & his breakdown is disturbing. However, the anti-abortion views he espouses through his tears are also very disturbing. His views are problematic and dangerous. We can want him to get help & not be anti-women.”
Natasha Rothwell also commented on this issue, and described his opinions as upsetting:
“He isn’t well. He hasn’t been for some time. I just hope his inner circle has the courage to put his mental health above their own self-interests before it’s too late.”
American stand-up comedian, writer and actor, Tom Segura added:
“What is most fascinating of Kanye’s endless drivel is that it strips the veneer of infallibility that celebrity perpetuates. A remarkably gifted artist and at the same time, an exceptional imbecile. That so many can forgive his amplified ignorance speaks to his level of talent.”
