Swedish singer and songwriter Zara Maria Larsson posted a photo of activist Oluwatoyin “Toyin” Salau, who found dead at 19 years old in Tallahassee, and spoke of sexual harassment and violence that women experience every day.
Through Instagram, ‘Ain’t My Fault’ singer firstly shared the story of Oluwatoyin “Toyin” Salau:
“This is Oluwatoyin “Toyin” Salau. After she tweeted about her sexual assault she disappeared for days. Nothing was done to help her. Her body was found yesterday. She was only 19. She had her whole life ahead of her. Toyin was vocal and outspoken, an activist. It aches my heart to see never ending pictures of young women having their lives taken away from them. Na’kia, Dominique, Emma, Breonna, the list goes f**king on and on.”
The 22-year-old singer continued with forceful statements:
“She’s every woman. Every woman who has been sexually assaulted. Every woman who has been murdered. Please, don’t just remember these women. Protect them.”
Then Zara Larsson urged her followers to help protect Black women, and indicated the ways of the help:
“Join me in joining with Color Of Change to pledge to protect Black women and girls from abusers and those who enable abuse on act.colorofchange.org/signup/blackwomenandgirlspledge or swipe up on my story. Art by @broobs.psd #justicefortoyin”
